(VOV) -One person was reported missing when torrential rains caused floods and landslides in the northwestern province of Son La on the night of July 10.
The victim was Hoang Thi Hue (born in 1989) in Phu Yen district who has just graduated from university. The accident occurred when she was riding a motorbike across bridge.
The same day, hundreds of cubic metres of soil and rock rained on the centre of Pung Luong commune in Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province.
At least four houses were completely destroyed at an estimated cost of VND150 million in property.
Local residents have been asked to temporarily move to safer areas to avoid the risk of more landslides.
Like other mountainous districts in the province, Mu Cang Chai is often hit by floods and storms.
In a two-day downpour ending on July 10, about 260 houses in Viet Lam commune, Vi Xuyen district, Ha Giang province were flooded, hundreds of hectares of farm crops destroyed, and traffic on the route to Viet Lam, Thuong Son and Quang Ngan communes completely grounded to a halt.
According to local sources, four local residents were injured by the landslide and one house was carried away by flood waters.
